Competitions are a great opportunity to see how your child is getting on. See a step by step guide below to help you with competition:
- The first bit of advice we would give you is to ensure you enter your child into the correct event using the guide above and taking the advice of your child’s coach. Your child’s first competition experience should be within their own club, in a relaxed environment where the result is less important than the taking part.
- When entering competitions ensure you enter early. Most acceptance is done on ratings first. However, some competition use a first come first served policy. This will depend on what grade of tournament you enter.
- You can enter all our events online, and don’t have to worry about printing and sending in entry forms.
- Once you have sent your online entry into an event, wait to hear from the competition organizer. If they haven’t got in touch with you a few days before the start date please contact them to find out more information.
- On the day of the event ensure you arrive to an event early so your child can warm up before they play if practice courts are available.
- Children often like their parents to watch their matches, especially if it is a new experience. While your child is playing you must not get involved in the match at all. It is the player’s responsibility to call line calls and the score. When the players are on court you can have nothing to do with the match, however difficult this may sometimes be. If you do see any examples of unfair play, speak to the referee; do not try and tackle any issues yourself.
- After your child has played a match, ensure the players give the score to the referee and know when they are playing again.
- After the tournament make sure your child had a good time and feedback any positive or negative comments to the tournament organiser or the LTA County Office.
- Then look for the next tournament to enter!
