Course descriptions
What can you expect from our tennis sessions?
-
Sessions will be active, safe, fun and educational.
-
We help our players to develop all aspects of their game, technically, tactically, physically and mentally.
-
We will use slower red, orange and green balls where appropriate and smaller rackets for younger children.
-
We will use modified court areas to develop quality technique and tactics.
-
We will offer exit routes for each player. Special squads are available for juniors who show aptitude, commitment and a willingness to play and compete regularly.
-
We will regularly monitor the players development and offer advice on future classes.
-
We promote regular and varied competition for all junior players regardless of ability. We aim to increase the number of regularly competing juniors in all our programmes
JUNIORS
Tots and Parents (3-4 year olds)
Our Tots programme is the ideal introduction to tennis for pre-school children. Sessions involve development of basic ball skills, coordination and movement in a fun environment where the child can learn by discovery. Our experience shows that children who complete a one-year Tots programme are much quicker to adapt to Mini Tennis Red sessions when they reach 4 or 5 years old.
Mini Tennis Red (8 and Under)
Mini Tennis Red is played on a smaller court. At this early stage, children are encouraged to develop simple tactics and technique, with attention to getting the detail right early on. They start developing the core skills of movement and co-ordination, take part in lots of fun activities and play short matches and team competitions. Due to the young age of the children and the amount they have to learn it is not unusual for children at this age to stay in the red programme for 3 or 4 years.
The Red programme is divided by ability:
Red 1 is for beginners who are completeley new to Mini Tennis or have progressed from our Tots programme
Red 2 is for improvers who have progressed from Red 1
Red 3 is for experienced players under the age of 8, who have progressed from Red 2
Mini Tennis Orange (9 and Under)
Mini Tennis Orange is played on an 18x6.5m court using a slower orange ball. The slower ball, shorter and narrower court and lower net helps children to develop an all-court offensive game, using more advanced tactics and technique. Competition includes slightly longer matches, which will follow singles, doubles and team formats.
Mini Tennis Green (10 and Under)
At this stage, children will be bigger and stronger and able to cover a bigger court using a green ball. We emphasise continued technical and tactical development using increased power and spin, as well as specific athletic skills. Competition is both individual and team-based.
Junior Tennis (11/13/15 and over)
Junior tennis caters for serious or social players. The whole court game is now being developed tactically and technically, using a normal ball. Competition is both individual and team-based. Special squads for better junior players are available at this level.
Development Squads (by invitation only)
inspire2coach junior squads are for players who want to take their tennis more seriously. Squad players will be playing several times a week and be committed to regular coaching, competition and fitness.
Fitness and agility
Fitness and agility sessions are designed to help players improve the all-important physical side of the game. Drills and exercises focus on movement patterns which will really improve the players speed and ability to cover the court. These sessions are ideal for squad players who need to work on their fitness to maintain a higher level of play.
ADULTS
Beginners
For new players or for those returning to the game after long absence. We aim to have all our beginner players serving, rallying and scoring from the very first lesson. We use slower balls to help you have more time to prepare and play your shots, improve your control of the ball and have longer rallies.
Improvers
For more experienced players who can sustain a baseline rally with another player in a full court. The programme will help improve stroke effectiveness and consistency, developing the use of spin and tactics for singles and doubles.
Advanced
For experienced club players wishing to further develop matchplay though drills, technical analysis, correction and tactical instruction. Players attending this programme should be regular competitors and are probably representing their club team.
Cardio Tennis
This aerobic workout on a tennis court to music is really popular. Players are given heart-rate monitors and helped to find and maintain their ideal workout zone to maximise the benefits. Players of any standard can join the class and enjoy an aerobic workout which is much more fun than going to the gym!
